Striking municipal workers fall foul of the law

The remaining six were denied bail, as it was discovered they were still serving suspended sentences relating to the same matter.

Ermelo Police arrested 17 employees of Msukaligwa Local Municipality who were part of a week-long strike in Ermelo last week.

According to the Ermelo Police spokesman Capt Carla Prinsloo, seven females and 10 males were arrested and charged with public violence and malicious damage to property last Wednesday.

The suspects appeared in court last Thursday where 11 of them were released on R500 bail each under specific conditions. The remaining six were denied bail, as it was discovered they were still serving suspended sentences relating to the same matter.

They will re-appear in court on Thursday for bail application.
