Container removal continues

Last week five more containers were successfully removed and eight business owners ceased to trade and removed their own containers.

In an effort to restore Ermelo to a measure of its previous splendour, Msukaligwa Local Municipality has clamped down on illegal trading.
They turned their attention to so-called “tuck shops” that have been operated illegally out of containers in residential areas.
After a stern warning to stop trading and remove their containers was ignored, the municipality had no choice but to enlist the help of a local towing company.
Under the watchful eye of the MMC Community Service, Ms Julia Bal, they started to remove the containers.
Last week five more containers were successfully removed and eight business owners ceased to trade and removed their own containers.
Some owners paid the money due for towing their containers away, placed them elsewhere and continued with business as usual, but these were soon dealt with.
This week six more container business owners received letters warning them to stop trading and remove their containers.
