Success for Nerston Border police

The vigilance of five newly appointed constables at the Nerston Border has resulted in the arrest of a suspected dagga dealer and the seizure of 8,8 kg of dry dagga with a street value of R13200.

On Monday 6 February, the vigilance of five newly appointed constables at the Nerston Border resulted in the arrest of a suspected dagga dealer and the seizure of 8,8 kg of dry dagga with a street value of R13, 200 as well as the arrest of illegal foreigners.

Consts, Mnisi, Msimango, Mwale, Sifundza and Maziba, who began their careers at Nerston Border Post in January this year also arrested the driver and seized the vehicle that was used to transport the dagga.

On the same day, the constables also arrested four illegal foreigners who had crossed the border into South Africa.

The driver of the vehicle that was used to transport one of the foreigners into the country was arrested on charges of aiding and abetting and his vehicle was confiscated.

All the suspects were detained at Amsterdam police station and the vehicles and the dagga were handed over to SAP 13 at Amsterdam.

The value of the vehicles involved in the crimes is estimated at R40 000 and 70 000 respectively. These vehicles may be forfeited to the state.

Unit commander of the Nerston Border Police, Capt L.J. Fourie, congratulated the constables for their good work and said he was proud to have such dedicated, vigilant and committed police members under his command.
