Attempted murder investigated

The suspect ran away but allegedly turned around and pointed the firearm at a police official.

Police were called to a tavern in Extension 33 at about 19:00 on Saturday where a man was reportedly pointing a firearm at fellow patrons.

Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo, said when police arrived, the suspect ran away, but allegedly turned around and pointed the firearm at a police official.

A shot was fired and the suspect was hit in the left leg.

He was then taken to the Ermelo Provincial Hospital where he was treated and placed under police guard.

The suspect faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A case of attempted murder against the police officer is also being investigated.
