Premier lashes out at the Lekwa Municipality

Mr Mabuza demanded answers from the leadership of the two municipalities as to why the houses and hostels were unoccupied

Mr David Mabuza, Mpumalanga Premier, lashed out at the Lekwa and Mbombela Municipalities in regards to over 500 houses and 500 units respectively not occupied.

In a two-day premier’s coordinating forum in Mbombela, Mr Mabuza demanded answers from the leadership of the two municipalities, as to why the houses and hostels were unoccupied by their owners when a number of people had no shelter.

About 25 families were temporarily moved into shacks and the old Sakhile hostels were demolished more than five years ago.

According to them, they were told that they will move into the new residential unit after its completion.

However, that did not happen and they are still residing in the small shacks.
