MEC pushes back to school campaign

MEC pledged R10 000 to the best performing Grade 12 learner at the end of the first term

Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works Roads and Transport, Sasekani Manzini visited Cebisa Secondary School in Wesselton, Ermelo for the back to school campaign today.

The MEC got of to an early start when she visited the scholar transport pick up spots in Nyibe section where she interacted with the learners, ward councilor, scholar transport controller and some of the parents.

She was informed of the challenges faced by the bus operators where learners refuse to take early buses resulting to operators ferrying half empty loads.

According to one of the parents, learners from the secondary schools always opt for the last buses which causes unnecessary overload and possible stampede.

The MEC encouraged the ward councilor to interact with the community in the ward particularly parents and the learners for them to take collective responsibility in making sure they get to school on time.

At Cebisa Secondary School, the MEC pledged R10 000 to the best performing grade 12 learner at the end of first term and R5000 to the runner up which would be used to pay for tertiary registrations next year.

In her address, she encouraged the whole school to work harder and value education as it is one of the keys to a better future for themselves and their families.
