Days of traffic fine defaulters will soon be over

"Nyamsoro vehicles cannot be on all provincial roads"

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison is in the process to introduce a system that will assist in tracing motorists with warrants of arrests for unpaid traffic violations.

The Traffic Intervention Unit (TIU) has been tasked to oversee the project and will receive all court warrants and follow the defaulters either at their addresses or place of work.

Although the Automated Number Plate Recognition vehicle nicknamed Nyamsoro is assisting with the identification of defaulters, many motorists escape the might of the law as Nyamsoro vehicles cannot be on all provincial roads.

MEC Pet Ngomane said the days of drunk drivers are slowly coming to an end.

Howver, he encouraged motorists to make arrangements to be driven home after consuming alcohol.
