Responsible behaviour can prevent drownings

People who are intoxicated drown whilst swimming.

Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal urges holiday makers to be responsible when swimming in rivers, dams, swimming pools and at beaches in order to prevent drownings.

IFP Provincial Spokesman, Mr Blessed Gwala said in a statement that KwaZulu-Natal is a popular holiday destination for thousands of holiday makers who flock to the coastline during the festive-season.

The KZN province welcomes the influx of tourists as it benefits the tourism industry and creates much needed jobs.

“We accept that beaches and holiday resorts will be overcrowded, so we urge revellers to be responsible,”said Mr Gwala.

Very often people drown as a result of swimming in unsafe waters or while they are intoxicated.

The IFP request that people identify safe swimming spots along the coastline that are protected by shark nets and have life guards on duty.
