Department ready for exams

The department has also established a Trauma Councelling Support Service for learners, parents and teachers during this period. This service can be accessed by phoning the departmental toll free line 0800 203 116 during office hours.

The 2016 National Senior Certificate (NCS) grade 12 examinations got underway last week and will proceed until 29 November.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education informed the Highvelder that all systems are in place to ensure the smooth running of the examinations. The examinations will take place in 552 examination centres within the four districts of Mpumalanga province.

There are 60 764 full time and 7 038 part-time candidates that have registered for this year’s examinations. Gert Sibande District registered 13 373 full time candidates.

The department appointed 552 Chief Invigilators who received training a six days training in preparation of the examinations.

Spokesman for the Department of Education Mr Jasper Zwane informed the Highvelder in an email statement that a monitoring plan by senior management has been developed and finalised for implementation and investigations and hearings on irregularities will be conducted immediately after being reported.

Regarding marking, 4 501 markers have already been appointed and marking will take place in 17 marking centres from 30 November to 14 December.

When asked about this year’s target Mr Zwane said the department intends to improve this year’s results by ten percent from last year’s 78.6 percent to 88.6 percent.

The announcement of results will be on 5 January 2017 at the former Marapyane Agricultural College in Dr. JS Moroka Local Municipalities.
