Nursing recruitment is a scam

The public is urged to report such incidents at their nearest police station.

Recruitment scams involving the Mpumalanga Department of Health have shattered people’s dreams of becoming nursing students or professional nurses.

The scams allege recruitment of auxiliary nurses and unsuspecting candidates are informed to call Thomas Mabaso on 079 486 2718 from the Department’s Human Resource Office.

The second scam involves recruitment of student nurses to the Mpumalanga Nursing College. People are telephoned and informed that they have been selected for an interview for recruitment at the college and must deposit money before they can be considered.

A number of victims have approached the department regarding the interviews, but were told the department knew nothing about the interviews or nursing positions.

The Department has subsequently released a warning to the public not to fall victim to the scam. The department also stated that no money is required for any job officially advertised or for recruitments.

The Highvelder also tested the cell phone number mentioned and the conman requested a payment of R3 000 together with certified copies of ID, nursing registration number and who recommended them.

The public is urged to report such incidents at their nearest police station.
