Heavy sentence for cable thieves

The court found that Leote and Malebiele had stolen copper cables to the value of R100 000

Two convicted cable thieves were handed heavy sentences in the Ermelo Regional Court on Tuesday 6 September.

Koali Leote (34) and Tshiso Malebiele (30), both Lesotho citizens, were each sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for theft, plus a further one year’s imprisonment on a count of trespassing.

The court found that Leote and Malebiele had stolen copper cables to the value of R100 000 after breaking in to the premises of the Mooiplaats Mine near Ermelo on 30 August last year.

The investigating officer was Sgt MS Nkosi and Mr S Hallatt was the presiding magistrate.
