More success for border police

The flat decks were removed from the bakkies and hidden compartments packed with sealed dry dagga rolls and packets of powdered dagga were discovered.

Members of the Nerston Border police chalked up another two successes only 30 minutes apart in the fight against dagga smugglers on Sunday morning.

In the first incident at about 07:30 during a special stop-and-search operation, police arrested two suspects carrying a bag found to contain 5,2 kg dagga with a street value of R7 800.

The suspects had crossed the border illegally from Swaziland to SA. The suspects appeared in court at Amsterdam on Monday on charges of dealing in drugs.

In a second incident at 08:00, two suspects were arrested after two furniture transporter LDVs with flat deck load areas had entered Nerston from Swaziland.

When police searched the vehicles, suspicions were aroused when they noticed that bolts securing the flatbeds to the chassis of the LDVs had recently been tampered with.

The flat decks were removed from the bakkies and hidden compartments packed with sealed dry dagga rolls and packets of powdered dagga were discovered.

The combined weight of the dagga found on the two vehicles is 195,5 kg with a street value of R293 250.

Both drivers were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs and the dagga and both vehicles were seized.
The suspects also appeared in court at Amsterdam on Monday.
