Well-known farmer passes away

George loved flying and flew as a private pilot for over 40 years. He was instrumental in the launch of the Ermelo Flying Club in 1991.

Mr George Benjamin Jacobsz (63) of Ermelo succumbed to cancer at the Ermelo Mediclinic surrounded by his family on Saturday

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mirinda, son Eksteen, daughter Renette, son-in-law Manie, brother Calie, sister Petro and three grandchildren.

George was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend.

Born in Ermelo to Eksteen and Jean Jacobsz, he lived his entire life on Tweefontein farm situated between Estancia and Davel.

He graduated from Ermelo High School in 1970. After losing both parents in a tragic accident in 1972, he started his farming career on the family farm.

George loved flying and flew as a private pilot for over 40 years until he was forced to give up his passion due to his illness.

He was instrumental in the launch of the Ermelo Flying Club in 1991.

George had an insatiable thirst for general knowledge and quenched it with reading and always asking questions.

Attention to detail was paramount to him.

He was a man of his word, always on time, a perfectionist, steadfast in his loyalty to his friends, saw life only in black and white and he was always fair to a fault.

His curiosity to see what was around the next corner of the road or over the horizon when flying set in motion his trips across Southern Africa.

His soul was filled with contentment when travelling.
One of George’s greatest attributes was his ability to make everyone he met feel at ease and welcome in his presence.

This has been validated by all the amazing and sincere messages that the family have received from all who knew him and for this they are eternally grateful.

George will be laid to rest at Tweefontein farm at 10:00 on Friday 12 August.

A service celebrating his life will be held afterwards at the NG Moedergemeente, Ermelo, at noon.
