Ermelo Police kept a watchful eye out for criminal elements among the throngs of shoppers that descended on the CBD on Friday at the start of the payday weekend.
The joint “High Visibilty” operation between the Visible Policing and K9 units was held to ensure the safety of shoppers by maintaining a high presence on street level.
Mobility was increased by policemen whizzing around the CBD and shopping centres on bicycles.
“No serious incidents were reported, and the weekend crime statistics were lower, which highlights the success of the operation,” said police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo.
