Department puts measures in place for Klebsiela and Malaria
The MEC for Health, Gillion Mashego has instructed hospitals and clinic managers to conduct maximum infection controls.
The Mpumalanga Department of Health has put measures in place to control infections in all facilities following reported cases of Klebsiella last week at Themba Hospital in Kabokweni.
The Klebsiella pneumonia infection at Themba hospital has been stabilised and there are only two children in a ward that are still under medical observation while others have been discharged. So far, six cases have been reported with only one death.
The Department of Health has instituted an extensive investigation and an audit of infection control measures are conducted by the Provincial Department Outbreak Response Unit supported by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.
