Meter boxes in dire need of repair

"The vandals should be brought to book and made to pay for the damage they cause."

A local businessman, Mr Ian Gilbert recently contacted the Highvelder to express his dismay at the state of several electrical substations and mini-sub stations in Ermelo.

“It is most alarming that these units have been left to deteriorate into such poor condition. Many of them are situated near schools and crèches and don’t even have doors or covers. In other municipalities, especially in the Cape, electrical installations and meter boxes are also vandalised but the safety of the public is put first and they are repaired. Why can’t the same be done here?” he asked.

He further added: “The vandals should be brought to book and made to pay for the damage they cause. On the other hand, the authorities should act responsibly and repair these boxes before a tragedy occurs.”
