Suspect arrested for murder of pensioner

The pensioner was found tied up and burnt to death.

Breaking news: A 52-year-old male was arrested in Randburg early this morning (Wednesday) in connection with the murder of a retired farm worker on a farm near Davel, Mpumalanga on March 29.

The suspect is due to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Thursday) on charges of murder, arson, kidnapping and theft.

He was arrested by Capt M.L. Thipe, Cst P.E. Nhlanhla and Cst S.J. Nlovu of the Davel police after investigations led them to Randburg.

A 75-year old pensioner whose name has been withheld, was found burnt to death in his home on the farm on 29 March. He had been tied up with wire and set alight inside the house. Cash and a cellphone were stolen.

A female neighbour was also tied up inside the house but managed to escape with minor injuries.

The dwelling was extensively damaged in the fire.
