A charge of malicious damage to property was laid by the owner of a used car lot against the driver of a Volkswagen Golf, believed to be an off-duty policeman, after a late night crash in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
This was followed by a counter charge of assault laid by the policeman against two males, one of whom is believed to be an Acsu security guard.
The incident occurred at about 01:00 am when the driver of the Golf failed to stop at a stop street at the junction of Border and Voortrekker Street and crashed into road signs before colliding head-on with a stationary BMW on display in the lot.
He then drove away from the scene of the accident in his damaged vehicle but was tracked down in Merino Street, more than a kilometre away.
Investigations into the incident are continuing
