Vuka creates platform for local talent

Last week saw their first success story when the Ubuhle Bendumiso Mass Choir recorded their first CD.

A local group, Vuka Youth Talent Organisation, with the help of different government organisations, aims to help in the fight against crime, poverty and drug abuse as well as help the youth to stay out of danger.

Mlungisi Ngobeni, founding member of Vuka Youth, says everything began with a talented group of friends that went to school together.

He soon realised that once they left school, they became very small fish in a big pond and many of them turned to drugs and crime to cope.

That is when the idea of Vuka Youth was born, to create a platform to showcase local talent and help them on their way to success.

Vuka Youth is a non-profit organisation and has been operating since 2012.

Last week saw their first success story when the Ubuhle Bendumiso Mass Choir recorded their first CD. They had been working with this choir since July last year.

Vuka Youth will be hosting their second youth conference on 16 June where they will introduce the choir and other young local talent to the community.

When asked about their future plans, Mlungisi replies: “To see one of our local artists become popular and put Mpumalanga on the map.”
