Possible breakthrough in convenience store robberies

Swift action by Acsu and police in Ermelo results in the apprehension of suspects thought to have been involved in robberies at garages in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

Police in Ermelo and Middelburg are investigating a possible breakthrough in the spate of armed robberies that took place at convenience stores in Middelburg Mpumalanga  late in January.

This comes after swift action by Acsu reaction squad members and police in Ermelo on Wednesday evening resulted in the apprehension of two suspects thought to have been involved in at least three robberies at garages in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

Following up on information received, Acsu members spotted a vehicle fitting the description of a vehicle involved in the Middelburg robberies at a local filling station. A chase ensued when the vehicle drove off.

Police back-up was called in and the the suspects were followed to a residential area south of Ermelo.

The two suspects were apprehend and taken in for questioning.

An investigation by the polices’ organised crime units in Middelburg and Ermelo is underway. Further arrests have not been ruled out.
