MEC calls for more support to families of Police

Its important that the SAPS work with other government departments to assist the families.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has called upon government and other agencies to give more support to the victims and survivors of Police officers who die on duty.

The MEC said its important that the SAPS work with other government departments to assist the families by among others facilitating bursaries, household needs and offering counselling to these families on ongoing basis.

He also noted with concern Police Labour movements regarding delays in payments to the families of victims. He also called on Police management to ensure that such payments are made speedily because most of the people who die on duty are breadwinners.
