Tourists die in accident

All three occupants, believed to be Egyptian tourists, were flung from the vehicle.

Two people died and a third was seriously injured in an accident on the N17 between Davel and Ermelo on Sunday afternoon.

Police spokesman for Davel, Const Portia Nkosi, said the accident happened at about 15:00 when the driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the road and overturn.

All three occupants, believed to be Egyptian tourists, were flung from the vehicle. One person died on the scene and two others were transported to hospital in Ermelo.

One of the injured later died in hospital.

The names of the victims are being withheld until next of kin have been informed.

Const Nkosi has urged motorists to be extra vigilant and to obey all traffic laws, especially during the approaching festive season when the volume of traffic on the country’s roads increases dramatically.
