Locals benefit through R4.5million potholes budget

During the project 27 100m² of surface in the seven local municipalities will be repaired

A budget of R5-million has been set aside to repair potholes in the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) in the next two months.

MMC for Human Settlement, Public Safety, Roads and Transport, Mr Aubrey Maboea, officially launched the potholes project at Msukaligwa Local Municipal Council Chambers last Friday where he announced that the whole project would take two months to complete, provided there are no interruptions.

During the project 27 100m² of surface in the seven local municipalities will be repaired. In Msukaligwa Local Municipality, 19 streets identified by the local municipality with 4480m² of surface will be repaired in 15 days with a quality guarantee of 12 months.

Velocity was appointed for the patching project and has already appointed a local service provider, employed eight local people to train and ensure skills transfer and will be buying their material from local businesses.

Mr Maboea also mentioned that should there be additional money available, they will consider increasing the budget after following all due processes. He also emphasised that work on the Standerton road would soon begin.
