Police crackdown nets dagga and nyaope

Suspect flees, drops evidence.

Police in Ermelo arrested two suspects on drug related charges and booked a further six motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during an intensified anti-crime campaign over the past few days.

On Saturday night police acted on information received and stopped a white BMW sedan on the road between Ermelo and Bethal. The vehicle and its two occupants were searched and an undisclosed amount of compressed dagga was discovered.

The two suspects, Nkosinathi Tshawala (32) and Subusiso Ngwenya (22) appeared in the Ermelo magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of being in possession of dagga.

On Monday morning, while police were routinely checking on business owners for compliance to laws governing the liquor license act, a suspiciously acting individual was spotted near a down-town taxi rank.

When police approached the suspect he fled into the crowd, dropping a box which appeared to contain cologne. Upon examining the contents it was discovered that the box contained several “pinches” of what police believe were the drugs Tik and Nyaope. The suspect managed to evade arrest.
