Stop-and-search nets dagga

Two of the bags contained more than 25 packets of dagga.

Police patrolling the road between Ermelo and Amsterdam at about 10:30 on Saturday morning stopped a vehicle with three occupants in order to carry out a random stop-and-search action.

Upon searching the vehicle, a 1-ton pick-up truck, police found three sport bags in the loading area, two of which contained more than 25 packets of dagga. The third bag contained clothing.

The three occupants told police they were travelling from Swaziland to Johannesburg. One of the occupants claimed ownership of the bags and was arrested and charged with possession of and dealing in an illegal substance.

He appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The two other occupants were released.
