Breaking news: Police swoop on drug lab

The chemicals were concealed in containers that were labelled as being household and industrial cleaning agents.

Ermelo, Saturday 11 July:

Swift action by Ermelo police has uncovered a possible drug manufacturing laboratory at a house in a quiet residential area of the town. The laboratory was however not yet fully operational.

Acting on information received on Friday afternoon, police swooped on the rented house at number 3 Smuts Street and found chemicals and apparatus that were possibly linked to the manufacturing of drugs.
The chemicals were concealed in containers that were labelled as being household and industrial cleaning agents.

Police spokesperson for Ermelo, Captain Carla Prinsloo said police forensic experts from Pretoria were called in and tests conducted on the scene in the early hours of Saturday morning confirmed that the chemicals and apparatus found were commonly used for manufacturing the drugs, cat and tik.

Three people were arrested.

Police declined to release further information at this stage as investigations were continuing.
