Three children, five adults injured in accident

Eight injured in accident

A one month-old baby, a toddler, a 14-year-old child and five adults were injured in an accident on the road between Ermelo and Piet Retief on Tuesday afternoon. The 14-year-old suffered serious injuries.

The accident involving a light motor vehicle and a truck occurred shortly after 16:00, approximately 35km from Ermelo.

Five of the injured were travelling in the sedan and three were occupants of the truck.

A seriously injured female passenger in the rear of the sedan was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by members of the Msukaligwa Fire and Emergency Services.

She was stabilized on the scene and transported to the Ermelo Provincial Hospital by emergency personnel of Life Care Response.

All three children, the driver of the sedan and the three occupants of the truck were also treated and stabilized and transported to the same hospital by emergency personnel of the Mpumalanga Ambulance Services.

All the patients were later transferred to the Ermelo Medi Clinic.
The seriously injured 14-year-old and other adults were later transferred to a hospital in Pretoria.
