Family Day celebrated

Families are the pillars in society.

The MEC for the Department of Social Development (DSD), Ms Nomsa Mtsweni, led the department in celebration of the International Day of Families at the Ella De Bruin Hall last Friday.
The day was marked with celebrations to acknowledge and appreciate the role played by families in society.
In her address, Ms Mtsweni said families are the pillars in society and play critical roles in shaping our people into responsible citizens.
She also said this year’s observation of the International Family Day was aimed at highlighting the important role that fathers and boy children can play in the care, protection and support in the family. She said the roles include men as protectors, providers, teachers and companions, among others.
“In the last financial year we developed and adopted a parenting framework that should guide us as we assist to improve their status in the community. This will serve as a base for both government and other stakeholders to develop parenting programmes that address specific provincial challenges facing parents and caregivers,” said Ms Mtsweni.
