Department renews tourist monitor contracts

546 tourist safety monitors contracts renewed.

Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison has renewed the contracts of 546 Tourist Safety Monitors (TSM) with effect from 1 June.
TSMs are employed to enhance tourism safety throughout the province, provide customer care and communication with the police.
They have basic knowledge of how the criminal justice system works and attend to crime likely to affect tourists, such as hijacking, rape, common robbery and burglary.
The TSMs also participate in road blocks when requested by police stations.
MEC Shongwe for the Department of Safety and Security said this is another form of job creating opportunities where they want dedicated individuals.
“We expect the monitors to assist in creating a safe and conducive environment for tourists visiting the province and they will also help with increased community awareness of economic benefits of tourism.
We also believe that through this programme, the province’s market share will improve and our communities will be well informed on safety issues,”said Mr Shongwe.
