Bakkie ploughs into ditch

Excavation left open. No warning signs left at deep excavation.

On Tuesday evening a bakkie ploughed into a heap of sand and landed up in a deep ditch that was dug and left open by municipal workers in De Bruin Street.

According to residents the ditch was dug over the weekend in order to repair a burst water pipe.

Except for a single strand of chevron tape on the edge of the worksite no warning signs were placed near the excavation which stretches halfway across the road surface.

The driver of the bakkie sustained a slight head injury.
