Suspected ‘jamming’ thief nabbed

Photographs lead Acsu TRU members to suspected car-lock 'jamming' thief.

A suspected thief was nabbed by members of the Acsu Tactical Response Unit.on Wednesday last week after a search in the CBD

It is suspected that the perpetrator used a jamming device to gain entry to a car parked in De Clerq Street after the owner had “locked” the vehicle by means of a remote control.

Employees at a bank on the opposite side of the street managed to photograph the incident and phoned Acsu. The suspect then left the scene and made his way towards the CBD.

Acting on a description of the suspect and upon seeing the photographs Acsu TRU members Jan-Hendrik Scholtz and Jaco Kirk searched for the suspect and spotted him at a taxi rank in town.

He was taken in for questioning but it was later learned that the owner had left nothing of value in the vehicle.
