Mpumalanga Working on Fire held a recruitment drive in Ermelo and Breyten recently where 403 participants took up the challenge and only 16 were successful and will attend training sessions.
In Ermelo 241 participants entered and only 12 passed. In Breyten there were 162 and four passed.
Working on Fire is a Department of Environmental Affairs programme aimed at fighting veld and forest fires and also educating people in different communities about the safe and responsible use of fire in and around their homes and the natural environment.
