Triwaters becomes triathlon

After eight days, since the beginning of their journey to the sea, the Triwaters team made it to the Begin der LijnBridge last Friday.

“Africa requires resilience, and the expedition will adapt!” – Franz Fuls

The low water level of the Vaal River has made their journey extremely difficult, with them having to drag their kayaks over sand banks and boulders.

Dehydrated, Australian Brett Merchant had to make a trip to a doctor’s surgery for a dose of saline.

Trying conditions and the low water level have forced the team to make an alternative plan: if there’s no water to paddle, they’ll have to pedal.

On Tuesday morning they set off on bicycles en route to Villiers, which they hoped to have reached by Wednesday evening.

Sadly, Canadian Troy Glover has had to abandon the expedition to be with his family during trying times.

His team mates will miss him and said the Triwaters tour would not have become a reality without him.

Troy remains a member of the Triwaters team and will be with them in spirit on their route to the sea.
