Four suspects, believed to be Pakistani nationals, are being held in connection with the stabbing and murder of 31-year-old Tariq Rashid Mohamed in the Ermelo central business district last Thursday. Mohamed was stabbed several times in the chest, head and back.

Three of the suspects were taken into custody at the scene while the fourth was arrested over the weekend. All four, whose ages range between 21 and 35, appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Monday on suspicion of murder.

Police were called when a fight apparently broke out between Mohamed and the four suspects in an area behind a popular grocery store in Naudé Street.

When police arrived on the scene, they found that Mohamed, who had been severely wounded in the fight, had already been taken to hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

The reason for the fight is not known at this stage.
