Hundreds of Chrissiesmeer and Warburton residents took to the streets and walked a combined four kilometres in support of cancer victims, survivors and activists last Friday.

The walk also celebrated the 16 days of activism against the abuse of women and children.

The event was attended by a number of stakeholders, including representatives of the Department of Health, Brothers for Life and ANOVA health.

The different stakeholders had stations where community members could go for enquiries or assistance from the respective departments.

The walk started at 09:00 at the Jessivale Village Club and finished at the same point.

One of the speakers, Capt A.S. Mlangeni, urged the community to report any form of abuse to the police as soon as possible and not to hide child rape and abuse. He also encouraged the community not to mistreat people affected by and living with cancer, but to give them the support they need.

Chrissiesmeer Police thank Jessivale York Timber for providing lunch during the event.
