Local movies from local talent

After five years of trial and tribulation, a local group has produced another of the works they are proud of with their latest offering, From Ermelo to Breyten, a DVD movie.

In 2009, TA Records and Khubza Productions merged as a result of working relations between the two groups and their passion for entertainment in making music and movies.

Banele Mzimba and Sanele Mabilisa are two of the actors who have already starred in the last seven movies the group has produced.
The duo is part of a 25-man crew who harbour aspirations of becoming movie stars one day.

One of the directors, General Makua, says its been a tough journey to get to where they are and they still face challenges in getting their work out to the public, as they do not have the financial muscle.

The producer, Nkosingphile Maseko, says getting to know the right people in the right places has also proved to be a challenge.

“Sometimes we struggle to find venues for our shoots and some of our scenes require official uniforms, such as policemen or nurses,” said Nkosingphile.
The group has had a fair deal of success as they previously won the Love Life and Arts and Culture musical and talent competitions.

General and Nkosingphile have resorted to selling their material on the streets and at taxi ranks and are in agreement that most people recognise them from some of their previous work.

Their goal is to see some of their work being televised on one of the Mzansi story-telling channels.

To date, the group has released nine DVD movies and are also working on a music video for a local gospel artist.

General recalls how they are sometimes turned away when they ask to use certain venues and others charge them huge amounts of money.

They are, however, grateful to Acsu and Izimbali Lodge for always assisting them free of charge whenever they need to use their uniforms, unloaded guns and personnel as well as the venue at Izimbali.
