Teams race for grannies

Each team received a photo of the aged person they were participating for.

This year’s SAVF Grannies Amazing Race saw 16 teams compete for first place as they had to apply knowledge of their town, figure out clues and go through a number of challenges at seven stops.
Each team received a photo of the aged person they were participating for. At each pit stop the teams collected cosmetic items to place in their baskets and later give to the beneficiary.
The teams started at Hoërskool Ermelo and ended at the SAVF Old Age Home where the top five battled it out in wheelchairs and water sports.
Of the R250 registration fee per team, R200 went to the old person a team supported and the R50 to Tekkie Tax, a national fundraiser collecting funds for five various charities.
MECCA Motosport 2 received first prize, a weekend stay at Stay Easy Hotel in Mbombela; second was the team Standard Bank who won a weekend at Forever Resorts in Badplaas; and third place went to Team Trek that received a R1 200 Jet gift voucher.
The event organiser, Miss Junior South Africa MP 2013 Nastasja Stark, thanked all the teams for participating and congratulated the winners. She also promised that next year’s event would be bigger and better.
