District library now open to public

The facility is open to the public and will be used as a reference library during office hours from 07:15 to 16:30.

Gert Sibande District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Mishack Nhlabathi, officially opened the Gert Sibande District Library recently.
The library’s Information and Communications Technology centre equipped with 22 computers with free Internet access, six printers and 2 000 books on various subjects was supplied by the provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation.
The facility is open to the public and will be used as a reference library during office hours from 07:15 to 16:30.
A printing and photocopy service is also available at a minimal fee and the public is encouraged to apply for membership cards by bringing a South African identity document only.
One of the stakeholders present at the opening function was Damelin Intec College who had already donated books to the library and awarded three students a bursary of R6 000 each to study Project Management and Human Resource Administration.
The recipients of the bursaries are Ayanda Mashaba, Mimie Nkosi and Gift Ngwenya.
Damelin branch manager Khulani Makhubele said his institution was proud to be part of the community-building initiative and added that as a college they always look for ways to add value in the community they operate in, which is why their branch also offers free Internet access to the community.
In his speech, Cllr Nhlabathi encouraged the youth to spend their time studying, as education is part of nation building.
“A learning nation creates the space for personal mastery and the library is more than just books. I hope this library will add value to the community,” said Cllr Nhlabathi.
