Waste not, want not

This particular valve was in the news as far back as January 2012 when municipal workers battled to close it .

According to a resident, a fountain of water has been squirting from a stop-valve on a main water-supply pipe for several days.

The pipe is situated south of the railway line, close to the road to Amersfoort.

This particular valve was in the news as far back as January 2012 when municipal workers battled to close it to repair a burst water pipe because the tap head had been stolen. Pipe wrenches have to be used to turn the shaft and close off the water supply.

The tap head has not yet been replaced.

The accompanying photo was taken last Friday and on Tuesday morning the water was still spraying.

This is just one of the many sites in Ermelo where leaking water pipes cause thousands of litres of drinking water to go to waste.
