Church rewards Masizakhe’s top 2013 Grade 12’s

“Never give up on your dreams and do not settle for mediocrity,”

The Mountain of Prayer (MOP) Family Church at Kwa-Zanele, Breyten rewarded academic excellence last Saturday when last year’s Grade 12 top-performing learners of Masizakhe Secondary School in Breyten were handed certificates and trophies for their achievement.

According to Pastor Mandla “Spix” Nkambule, the purpose of the awards was to acknowledge hard work, dedication and reward excellence by the pupils.

“Quite often teachers are forgotten when celebrating Grade 12 results. We want to acknowledge the work and dedication from the teachers in making sure that the school receives desirable results,” said Pastor Nkambule.

He added that this was one of their Social Responsibility projects to uplift the community.

Mr Njabulo Nkosi and Mr Vusi Mbokane, former pupils of Masizakhe, were guest speakers. Mr Nkosi, who recently qualified in Business Management, warned the pupils of the dangers of too much fun and forgetting the real reason why they are in tertiary institutions.

Mr Mbokane, who is CEO of a multi-million Information Technology (IT) company, emphasised the need to be humble and not to forget where you come from.

“Never give up on your dreams and do not settle for mediocrity,” said Mr Mbokane.

The keynote address came from Pastor Mandla Mahlangu who in parts of his address mentioned the importance of spiritual understanding and connection with the Creator.

The class of 2014 have committed themselves to achieving a pass rate at least 95 per cent this year.

The staff of Masizakhe was presented with a plaque in recognition of their performance for the 2012 and 2013 Grade 12 results where the school obtained 90 per cent and 92 per cent respectively.

The organisers thanked former Masizakhe pupil, now businessman, Mr Musa “Pali” Gwebu for his contribution to making the event a success.
