John Beart passes

“a gentleman farmer who raises nothing but his hat”.

John Beart, well-known resident of Ermelo, passed away at the age of 86 on 30 November last year in Nazareth House in Johannesburg.

Due to his health degenerating, John and his wife, Lin, were forced to leave Ermelo after 70 years and move to Nazareth House where he would receive special care. Sadly, he passed away only three months later.

After matriculating, John moved from Johannesburg to Ermelo where he was involved in the motor industry and in 1960 he became the co-owner of the Beart & Greyling garage.

During this time John excelled in sales and service, winning two overseas trips as prizes.

In the late ’70s, John took over Denne Motors, which he managed till his retirement.

John had a great passion for farming and spent as much time as possible on his “mini”-farm where his cattle and crops were his pride and joy. John fondly referred to himself as “a gentleman farmer who raises nothing but his hat”.

A devoted Christian, John served as chairman of the Judes Men’s Society of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 30 years, a cause that gave him endless joy.

John will also be remembered for 40 selfless years he devoted to Rotary.

As chairman of the Badplaas Rotary Home for Seniors for 30 years, John created many happy memories for senior citizens.

John and Lin were married for 60 happy and eventful years and she and their three daughters, grandchildren, son-in-law and friends will always remember him for his loyalty and unconditional love.

“Our gentleman farmer and best friend – he’ll always be a part of us.”
