SECUNDA – Zimiseleni Project in partnership with the Govan Mbeki Municipality held a skills transfer programme on Friday, 25 October at the Johannes Stegmann Theatre.

This programme is funded by the National Art Council (NAC) and its aim is to transfer critical art skills to the disadvantage youth.

Zimiseleni Project is a non profit organisation which deals with youth-related issues.

This project brought 30 young people from eMzinoni to the Johannes Stegmann Theatre.

They were taught about art, stage management, sound engineering and lighting.

Mr Peter Selepe, programme convener, said: “This programme is helpful to the youth that are interested in art.

“We encourage young people in our area to make use of this opportunity so that they can learn more about performing art and stage management.”

The skills transfer was conducted by Messrs Mpho Robotapi, Sifiso Mkhwanazi and Mongezi Masombuka.

The youth raised various questions concerning art and they were also shown the inside of the theatre.

Sandile Thabethe said “We have learnt a lot today, especially about stage management.

“I was surprised that curtains on the stage have names.

“I have acquired many skills about performing art and I encourage young people to come to the theatre, because there is a lot they can benefit from instead of staying home and complain about unemployment.”
