IDP consultation has begun

The municipality has begun with an IDP consultation programme and residents are using this as a platform to raise their concerns.

eMBALENHLE – Govan Mbeki Municipality has begun its Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultations meetings.

It was held at the Difa Nkosi Hall and the RDP Hall in Leboganga and at the Healing Ministry in Extension 11 on 23 October, the Kiriyatswana High School in eMbalenhle, the Raymond Mavuso Hall in eMzinoni and the municipal office in Extension 25 Kinross on 24 October.

The IDP is a principal strategic planning model which the municipality uses to achieve the objects of local government set out in Section 152 and in giving effect to its developmental duties as required by Section 153 of the Constitution.

The Local Government Municipal System Act, no 32 of 2000 places a unique obligation on the municipality to undertake a developmentally oriented planning process.

The Echo and Ridge Times attended the meeting at the Kiriyatswana High School on 24 October.

Residents raised their concerns about poor service delivery, electricity problems, bad attitude of the municipal personnel, drainage systems, lack of RDP houses and high-mast poles.

Ms Thandi Ngxonono, MMC for Technical and Engineering Services, addressed the issues that were raised.

She said the municipality is attending to the issues raised and several roads are currently under construction and rehabilitation in several wards in eMzinoni, eMbalenhle, Lebohang, Lebogang and Charl Cilliers have been fixed.

The programme will continue in other towns of the municipality.
