The Ermelo leg of the MercedesTrophy was played at the Ermelo Country Club golf course on Friday and attracted a large group of Mercedes-Benz owners who competed in three divisions according to personal golfing handicaps.

This leg of the prestigious competition was once again hosted by a local dealership, De Wit Motors.

The three winners in the A, B and C categories will jet off to Mauritius later this year where they will compete against other regional winners and stand a chance of qualifying for the grand final in Stuttgart, Germany. This year marks the 26th anniversary of this event.

The Ermelo winner of the A-division was Pieter Swartz with 39 points on a count-out with Stefan van Heerden in second place, also on 39 points. Bennie van Niekerk took third place with 38 points,

B-division winner was Andries Liebenberg on 41 points with André Steyn in second place and Gerhard “Oros” van der Walt in third place on 38 points.

The C-division prize was awarded to WA de Klerk on 35 points after Adam Voges (36 points), who won in 2014, forfeited first place.

According to the rules of the competition, a competitor must forfeit the prize if he/she has already won in the previous three years.

Third place went to Werner Killian on 33 points on a count-out.

Various items, including the free use of a Mercedes-Benz B-Class for one year, were auctioned off.

A large sum of money was collected at the event and donated to the local CSS Child and Youth Care Centre. Generous donations for this worthy cause were also made by private individuals.
