Smith carded rounds of 71 and 69 for a total of 140, finishing three strokes ahead of the pack.

 

Kevin Smith of the Greenside Golf Club in Witbank is the 2016 Ermelo Open Golf Champion.

The tournament was held at the Ermelo Country Club over the weekend and attracted a field of 70 players.

Smith carded rounds of 71 and 69 over the 36 holes for a total of 140 to put him three strokes ahead of local player Niel Clifford who put together rounds of 71 and 72 for a total of 143 for second place.

One stroke further back in third place was Ermelo stalwart Eddie Daniel on 144 (71 and 73) and in fourth place was Derek Fick on 145 (71 and 74).

Fifth-placed Devon Strydom fell off the pace on the first round, carding a 75, but pulled things back in the afternoon round with a 71 to give him a total of 146 shots.

The nett winner on a count-out was James Nkonde on 142 (71 and 71) and runner-up nett was B. Magagula, also on 142 (68 and 74).
