Ermelo parents share how their children are coping with school lessons and activities

“We downloaded the PDF documents and we are doing the lessons and practical activities every day.”

Parents shared with the Highvelder how their children are coping with school lessons during the national Covid-19 lockdown in Ermelo.

Ms Jessica Abbott, the parent of Amy Abbott, said: “Amy was very excited to begin with school work, she is doing really well.

“She misses school a lot, every time I show her the videos her teachers send on the lessons-Whatsapp group, she asks me if she can go to her”

According to Mr Aasif Bhagalia, parent of Zayd Bhagalia, they began educational activities when they received the news that the lockdown would be extended.

Mr Bhagalia, said: “He is coping well as he is proud to show his mum and dad his capabilities.

“As his parents, we are thoroughly enjoying assisting him.

“We try to make learning fun by adapting the learning environment according to the relevant subject matter.

“For example, the current work theme is Autumn that is why we have moved his desk outside under the trees.”

Mr Christo Botha, parent of Divan Botha, said, the school send out revision documents via Google Drive for this week.

“We downloaded the PDF documents and we are doing the lessons and practical activities every day.”

“I’m used to doing homework with him, it is nothing new for us.

“Initially he was a bit lazy but, now he understands more that it’s important to learn at home.”

Ms Claudia Govind, parent of Ananda Mbatha(17) and Raheem Govind(7), said, Ananda is doing okay, she receives work over a Whatsapp-group and is used to studying alone.

Ms Govind, said: “I’m just concerned about the impact this lockdown will have seeing she is in grade 12 and I feel like there is not a lot of work that has been sent.

“The little one misses school a lot and we go through work he used to do at school.”
