Police have seized nearly 000 counterfeit DVDs as well as equipment used to copy and produce pirate DVDs after a street hawker was apprehended on Saturday.
W/O Hendrik Fourie and Const Sikhonde were on routine patrol in De Emigratie Avenue when they became suspicious of a man carrying a large sports bag.
The man was questioned and a search of the bag revealed a large quantity of counterfeit DVDs. Further investigations led to the discovery of the equipment and more DVDs at the suspect’s house.
The suspect, who is frequently seen in parking lots in town, was issued with a fine and the goods were confiscated.
Police have urged the public not to support hawkers who sell counterfeit goods, because this creates a flourishing market for the fake goods.
