Mr Ruan Lottering from Afriforum Mpumalanga visited the site behind Alzu last week where sewage has been streaming from a manhole for months.
The sewage flows down to the stream which later flows into a network of streams.
Mr Lottering took water samples both downstream and upstream from the contaminated area.
The samples will be tested for, among others, E-coli, bacteria and other harmful elements.
Pending the results, a lawsuit could be filed against the municipal manager for the dumping of hazardous waste, a charge which could result in 10 years’ imprisonment.
Results of the water samples were not available by the time of going to press.
