The teacher who found the boy, called the police after he told her of the alleged constant abuse and assaults by his grandmother.

A six-year-old boy was found after school hiding in a classroom to escape his allegedly abusive grandmother.

The teacher who found the boy, called the police after he told her of the alleged constant abuse and assaults by his grandmother.

The boy had severe bruises all over his body.

The 40-year-old woman was arrested on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She first appeared in the Mayflower Periodical Court on 19 February and was released on R500 bail.

The case was postponed to 30 March for further investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has strongly condemned the physical violence used against the victim by the grandmother.

He said: “If women, who are supposed to shield and protect children from harm, are the ones that are in the forefront of child abuse then our society is heading for disaster.”
