Eskom does not expect load shedding today – 20 December

This comes as a result of a drop in the demand of electricity during the holiday period and a return of some generating units to service.

Eskom said despite a constrained and vulnerable system, no load shedding is expected for today, 20 December.

This comes as a result of a drop in the demand of electricity during the holiday period and a return of some generating units to service.

Eskom will continue to use emergency reserves to supplement capacity if necessary over this period.

Eskom reminded customers that as the system continues to be vulnerable and unpredictable, the possibility of load shedding still remains.

According to a press release by Eskom, breakdowns (UCLF) were at 13 154MW this morning at 6.30am.

The statement further read that Eskom’s technical teams will continue to work over the holiday period to monitor the situation, carry out planned maintenance and to work at reducing unplanned breakdowns to below 9 500MW to enable them to minimise the possibility of load shedding.

They urged customers to reduce the demand for electricity as a concerted collective effort to help to avoid or lessen the level of load shedding.
